Work Day 8

Date Worked 01/22/12

Weather Sunny
Temperature 58
Workers Present 3
Time Worked 3
Manhours Spent 9
Distance Completed 160
Total Trail Distance 635
Total Manhours Spent 87

What a great day to work, sunny and warm............I could've had a ride!! Oh well, we have to stay focused. Although there were only 3 of us this day we covered allot of ground. It started off with some very rooty (is that a word) section and finished with a 100yard flat that basically just needed raked and a few fallen trees cut. This day made it really feel like we are getting somewhere, we even parked our vehicles in a different spot. It is now faster to park near the second shelter and hike straight up the hill than to walk the entire trail that we have built.

We hope to see a few more helpers this Sunday, we will have an easy start through a valley then more benching to get around the next point. Best thing about it will be the sight of the 2nd park shelter as we round the corner on the point. Gotta have small goal to keep us motivated. Hope to see you there Sunday!!

The day started off good and ended up great. We had 7 people to show up for work, I think our hopes of extra help each week is really happening. The extra help is really paying off, the trail is really shaping up and looking great. The more experience we get building trails the better they turn out. This trail is going to be really fast and flowing. The deep bench cuts make for a wide, smooth sustainable trail. The only drawback to the trail being this nice is we are sacrificing some time. In the past years we have benched a little less and covered more ground. It may take a little longer now but the end result will be worth it. I really think the Wildcat will become one of the most used and most liked trail by everyone from cyclist to runners to the everyday walkers. If we reach our goal of museum this winter and get a trail head established the traffic will really take off.

In my last post I made mention of a member that had not shown up for trail work, well that really did the trick, Josh V was there along with Josh W, Grand Master Ron S, Joey A and the 3 of us die hards (William, Dennis and Chris). Big thanks to everyone for the help. We'll be at it again this Sunday and hope to see everyone again.

Work Day 6

Date Worked: 01/08/12

Weather: Overcast
Temperature: 44
Workers Present: 5
Time Worked: 2.5
Manhours Spent: 12.5
Distance Completed: 95
Total Trail Distance: 355
Total Manhours Spent: 57

We completed about 100 yrads of trail thanks to the good weather and the extra help provided by Grand Master, Ron S. and Derek T. All the extra help this year has really helped out with our trail building. At the beginning of our trail work season we had hoped to have 1 or 2 extra set of hands each Sunday and that has pretty much happened. Hope the trend continues!! Though I will have to say that there is one LMBA member that has failed to show up...........you know who you are.

After a week off for the Christmas holiday we were back at it right where we left off. I was hoping that Santa's elves would have done a little digging over the break but that didn't happen.........maybe next year!

With a pretty tough section to work on for the day it was great to see Joey A. come out to lend a hand, big thanks for that!!! We worked for about 1 1/2 hours and got rained out, this is something that almost never happens. We usually work regardless of the weather, but we are typically battling snow and not rain. Frozen ground is much easier to work in than mud. I guess there are a few draw backs to warmer weather.

We will be back at it next Sunday and will almost surely reach our second milestone of this trail. Getting to the first point and transitioning onto a flat that we hope will speed up production.

Come out and join the fun, Sundays at 10am. Hope to see you there.

Not real happy with the pictures for this week but here is what I've got.
